Spice up your meals with Forest Hills workshop

Cookbook author Evelyn Banker will be hosting a workshop, “Cooking Vegan with Evelyn,” at the Central Queens Y in Forest Hills this Monday.

book1Banker, who wrote “The Magic of Spices/A Touch of Turmeric,” is a firm believer that spices aren’t only delicious, they’re also good for your health.

The 57-year-old had problems with her knees a few years back, but she said after using turmeric in her meals, her problems began to subside.

She claims that turmeric works to prevent and treat Alzheimer’s, and also can stop bleeding.

Her workshop will involve Banker preparing a pea soup and tea, using about ten different spices in the process. The tea will actually be made entirely of spices and not include any tea leaves.book2

Attendees will get the chance to taste both at the end of theĀ evening.

The workshop will run from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Central Queens Y (67-09 108th St.) on March 2 and is free for members, $3 for non-members. Register by calling 718-268-5011 ext. 160 or email olderadults@cqy.org.
