Musica Reginae concert tonight kicks off Queens New Music Festival

Tonight, May 19, at 8 p.m., Musica Reginae presents their concert “Works for Marimba and Piano.” Marimba Master Makoto Nakura will return to the stage with pianist Barbara Podgurski. The performance is also the first for the 5th Annual Queens New Music Festival.
After moving to New York from Japan in 1994, Nakura became the first marimbist to win the prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions. The Forest Hills resident also founded ISGM New Music Commissioning Fund, which has allowed leading composers to perform concertos, solos, interdisciplinary works and chamber works. Dr. Podgurski, a leading member of Musica Reginae, has performed at many classical venues, including Carnegie Hall. She was also recently featured in a Japanese television documentary for NHK regarding her time with her touring partner violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn and Mendelssohn Stradivarius.
The concert will be held at The Church-in-the-Gardens at 50 Ascan Avenue in Forest Hills Gardens.
If you cannot make it to tonight’s concert, on Sunday, May 22, St. Luke’s will be presenting works for violin & piano by Ravel, Debussy, Puccini and more performed by Ivy Adrian, Piano, and Patti Ditzel, violin. St. Luke’s is located at 85 Greenway South in Forest Hills Gardens.
