Forest Hills New Year and New Eats

2018 has brought about many changes for the residents of Forest Hills.

We all can agree that the neighborhood’s charm lies within the food establishments that take up residence within it. With treasured favorites like, Dee’s, Nick’s Bistro, Cabana, and Eddie’s Sweet Shop, Forest Hills has more than proved itself to be a great destination for foodies of all kinds.

Although we lost some well-respected businesses like the Shalimar Diner and Tazzina this year, we have also seen the emergence of several new eateries. After you ring in the new year with friends and family, be sure to check out these new restaurants in 2019!

Song Dumpling Cafe

Who: Song Dumpling Cafe

Song Dumpling Cafe offers a wide variety of steamed and pan-fried dumplings. Homemade and served Dim sum style, their cute piggy egg buns will delight adults and children alike. Be sure to try the chicken basil pan fried dumplings!

Deasura

What: Syrian Food

Deasura was brought to life by a brother and sister duo this Summer and has been a hit with the neighborhood ever since. Serving up classic Syrian style dishes like tabouli, falafel, and sautéed loubiyeh, Deasura is a great option for vegetarians.

Snow Days

Snow Days is currently closed for the season in Forest Hills but come Summertime will offer deliciously instagrammable shaved ice cream. This hybrid of ice cream and shaved ice creates the perfect fluffy snow texture. All shaved cream is produced in small batches to ensure quality and freshness. With flavors like roasted black sesame, green tea matcha, and NY cheesecake, we can’t wait for Snow Days to return this summer.

Numero 28 Pizzeria

What: Neapolitan Style Pizza and Italian Favorites

Numero 28 specializes in Neapolitan pizza baked in a brick oven to achieve the perfect smoky crust. The Numero 28 recipe was handed down through 5 generations of pizzaioli.The restaurant also features favorite Italian dishes such as lasagna, rigatoni alla Bolognese, eggplant parmigiana, homemade tiramisu, as well as a wide assortment of antipasti.

Memories of Shanghai

Memories of Shanghai is located right next to the 112 Precinct in Forest Hills. Previously featured in the New York Times, Memories of Shanghai is becoming well known throughout the neighborhood for its xiao long bao or soup dumplings. Xueling Shang, the restaurant’s owner had previously worked at Flushing’s soup dumpling powerhouses, Joe’s Shanghai and at Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao and has maintained the same level of quality in Forest Hills.

Spy C Cuisine

What: Authentic Szechuan Style Takeout

Previously highlighted by the viral Instagram account @foodbabyny, Spy C Cuisine has become known to locals for offering free samples at the annual Austin Street Fair. Spy C’s Szechuan style dan dan noodles have also received rave reviews online. Whether you’re dining in or ordering out, Spy C Cuisine is a must try.
