‘Tree of Life’ exhibit opens at the Red Pipe Cafe

Last week, “The Tree of Life” exhibit opened at Red Pipe Cafe at 71-60 Austin Street. It is slated to run for three months.

Under the direction of painter and gallery owner David Chatowsky, a collaboration of nine Rhode Island-based artists are exhibiting and selling nearly 40 paintings, photographs, and other works of art.

Portions of the money from the sale of the nature-inspired works will be donated to the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, where a mass shooting on October 27 left 11 dead and seven injured.

On a trip to Newport last fall, this columnist met Chatowsky and arranged to bring the artists and their work to Forest Hills.

“We brought peace and harmony through art to Forest Hills to help people who were victims of senseless violence,” said Chatowsky, who is also displaying some of his own works. “I am asking the people of Forest Hills to help us create a positive ripple in the water of life that will in time become a mighty wave of peace.”
