Local group hosts MacDonald Park cleanup this weekend

A community group called Friends of MacDonald Park is hosting a cleanup of the green space this Saturday, September 5, at 10 a.m. Tools and work gloves will be provided on site, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own equipment if possible.
Residents have remarked the months neglect suffered by MacDonald Park during the coronavirus pandemic, leaving the space overgrown and underfed. Friends of MacDonald Park stopped its weekly landscaping at the height of the city’s outbreak, and while the Parks Department cleans the park daily, maintenance is not performed frequently.
“Now is not the time to cut funding of our much needed and limited park space,” Friends of MacDonald Park wrote in a post on Facebook, tagging several elected officials as well as the Parks Department. “Our parks are already falling into ruins due to recent budget cutbacks. If we want people to safely relax outdoors in their local parks during the pandemic, then we must make every effort to maintain our parks for the health and safety of the public. Let’s get our parks back in order!”
