Many are calling the 2016 parade along Metropolitan Avenue in Forest Hills its biggest yet. Led by Grand Marshals Detective Gigi Redzematovic and Lt. Col. Thomas Sullivan, the crowd just seemed to be bigger and stronger this Sunday morning, May 29, 2016, according to parade chairman Tom Long, Commander of the American Legion Continental Post.
You can see that the spectators were five people deep at some spots along the parade route, which has been called the quickest parade route in the city.
The parade was sponsored by the American Legion, Forest Hills Kiwanis along with the Forest Hills Times Newspaper. Its major donors included TD Bank, Queens Chamber of Commerce, Our Lady of Mercy Academy, 5 Burro Cafe, The West Side Tennis Club, Northwell Health, Forest Hills Civic Association and Metro Candy.
“The community businesses have come through quite well for this event,” said Linda Dougherty, president of the Forest Hills Kiwanis Club and principal of Our Lady of Mercy Academy.
