QUSC Ends Spring Season on High Note

The three teams comprising Queensborough United Soccer Club [QUSC] all made big strides in progression during their inaugural season.
Starting way back in September 2016, all the players on each team were strangers and individuals. The QUSC coaching staff headed by Efrain Nino, and Felix Cano molded them into teams, teaching them that the whole of a group is stronger than an individual. Our club has competed in over 65 league, cup, and tournament games playing teams as far away as Massachusetts and as close as Floral Park.
Our U/8 team reached the championship final of their recreational league in Brooklyn this past spring finishing as the runner up. Meanwhile, our U/9’s finished in fourth place in a 10 team league in the Long Island Junior Soccer League, in both fall & spring, reaching the semi-finals of the Massapequa Memorial Day tournament. The U/11’s reached the semi-final of their league playoffs during the fall, and finished in third place during the Massapequa Memorial Day Tournament.
Our players have learned a lot about how hard work, passion, dedication, and how time management goes into playing on a competitive travel team. Our parents, and families have given us tremendous support over the season, always showing great sportsmanship at all games. This has helped us grow our reputation, getting our name on the soccer map, while showing that we proudly represent the entire borough of Queens, and in return support our borough with different community initiatives.
Other highlights included our first annual awards night dinner. Our players were treated to an arts and crafts bonanza at our sponsor Little Pulp at the Atlas Park Mall, making prints of the team crest that honors the history of Queens while partying with pizza and juice. Awards such as Players’ Player award was a trophy coveted for it’s voting done by the player’s peers, while coaches handed out certificates of accomplishment for best communicator, most artistic goal celebration, and one for the soccer player who assisted the team by playing any position in any situation.
QUSC will be expanding from three to five teams in their second full season when they all begin play in the Long Island Junior Soccer League in the fall of 2017.
